Anthia Loizou

Bio

Award winning artist Anthia Loizou graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2020 and is currently studying abstract painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In her artistic practice, Loizou gives material form to ideas centering around the relationship of mind and body. She investigates how memory, social constructions and heritage affect individual perception.

Often, the artist uses earlier works as the base material for a new pieces with different form and dimension. She, for example, takes elements of an art installation and makes them part of a two-dimensional collage. Or she connects fragments of various paintings to create a three-dimensional sculpture.

A material that Loizou is especially drawn to is adhesive tape – particularly when applied to a stretched-like-a-drum transparent paper surface. The fragility of the paper balances the aggressive durability of the tape. By layering different semi-transparent colored tapes the artist creates a new, highly individual colour palette.

Anthia Loizou was awarded the Ethniki Asfalistiki Art Award (2017), IKY Prize (2011) and IKY Scholarship (2012). Her works can be found in both institutional and private collections.

Anthony Rondinone | Return on Art

Anthony Rondinone

Bio

Anthony Rondinone is an American painter born and raised in the Bronx, New York. His expressive stylistic portraits are his tool to convey the raw emotions that are common in poor immigrant communities such as his, like addiction, isolation, depression, and anger.

With his works, the artist aims to encourage self-reflection and tap into the viewer’s emotions, asking them to establish a personal connection with the featured characters in order to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. In establishing this intimate moment of confrontation, the artist shows that there is a certain beauty in sadness or even in the ugly side of humanity.

“I’ve been using certain pop characters to portray different groups in society. Sesame Street reminds me of the Bronx, and each character has started to represent a different type of personality from where I grew up. For example, Cookie Monster is the typical addict you would pass by on the street without thinking twice, but he actually is an incredibly sad character when you stop to think about his life.”

The artist currently lives and works in New York, USA.

Instagram

Bio

Born in Florence, Angela Susini has been passionate about art and drawing from a very early age on. When she was only 10 years old, she illustrated her first book. She then went on to win a scholarship and graduated in fine art restoration and conservation of Cultural Heritage from the prestigious Opificio Delle Pietre Dure in Florence. After graduation, she worked in restoration as well as interior design.

Despite growing up surrounded by Renaissance art, Susini has a deep love for abstract and contemporary art. Over the years, she has lived in Florence, Japan, and Paris, until finally moving to London and Brighton & Hove, where she is currently based. Each of these different places she resided has provided her with its own individual inspiration which now finds its way into her work.

Working with colours and shapes rendered in a gouache technique, the artist aims to convey a sense of inclusion and unity. Skin toned glazes and a soft neutral palette are her tools to share a message of solidarity at a time when acceptance of diversity is fundamental.

Her artistic process is one of observation. The artist often makes use of photography to capture something that catches her eye. Back in her studio, she then creates an individual colour palette and starts the sketching process on paper before moving on to one of her handmade canvases. Susini’s artistic process is a continuous intuitive evolution until she is finally satisfied with the result.

Lately, the artist has been working on a collection of abstract paintings on paper and experimenting with heavy body paints to be able to create more three-dimensional pieces. Angela Susini currently lives and works in Brighton, UK.

Instagram

Bio

Amy Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Melbourne in 2000 to study fine art at the Victorian College of Arts. The artist has worked across a range of creative industries including theatre design, art directing, interior decoration, graphic design, and teaching.

Depicting organic matter through idiosyncratic means, Amy Kim’s work integrates the real with the surreal. By merging interlocking geometric shapes and a bold, tenacious use of colour, the artist re-interprets figures, faces, scenes and settings in a highly individual manner.

Finding the perfect, congruous blend of constructivism, fauvism, expressionism and surrealism, her work pays homage to the commonalities that exist between these groundbreaking styles.
